New Relic Plugin Does Not Alert When Service Unavailable

I track several services with the new Relic plugins (memcached, mongodb, etc.). They show me statistics from these services, but when the service is down, there are no alerts from New Relic. Only zeros in service statistics. How to configure plugins to create alerts? I am using the latest version of newrelic-plugin-agent https://github.com/MeetMe/newrelic-plugin-agent .

We know that low water thresholds are what our users want, and this feature is on our roadmap to develop. Meanwhile, plugin authors can work around this problem. If you contact the MeetMe author, an intermediate solution can be written to the plugin for this particular use case.
