How to make a text box on the windows taskbar?

I am making an application that will trigger a user request and display the results. To make the interface more convenient, I thought of creating a text field on the taskbar that accepts input and then displays the results in a new window. I looked at the links of the same question on both SO and other sites.
Based on what I learned using Google and other sites we should use groups to achieve this goal.
Can someone please explain to me the solution to the above problem (group), you can point out some good links or some articles as well, or you can write sample code to explain. I just want to get enough information to start working on a solution to this problem.

"You should use the thumbnail toolbars in the new development instead of desktop ranges that are not supported on Windows 7." - MSDN

Unfortunately, it seems like Microsoft is discouraged by the creation of graphical interfaces in the taskbar, like what you are talking about. An alternative is to use taskbar extensions, as discussed here . MSDN seems to give some conflicting information on the taskbar extension page, directing developers to the IDeskBand2 page (where the quote is above). For future compatibility, I would recommend this.
