Soft-float version of Raspbian not loading

I uploaded the Raspbian hard floating image here:

http://www.raspberrypi.org/downloads

I copied the recommended hard-swimming image on the SD card, and the raspberry Pi boot with it.

Then I downloaded the soft-float version of Raspbian because I need some software to run, which does not work with the hard version. I formatted the SD card again, copied the soft float image onto it and tried to load the raspberry Pi with it.

Problem: Raspbery Pi does not boot with a floating version of Raspbian! I can see that the green ACT LED lights up in less than a second. After that, only the red power indicator turns on, after which nothing happens.

I repeated this process a couple of times and reloaded the images, checked the SHA of the downloaded file, etc. It just doesn't work. An image with a solid float is always loading (the green "ACT" indicator flashes quickly, as usual).

Any ideas?

Update: if you have a new Raspberry Pi with Hynix memory, older versions of Raspbian will not load. In particular, you will need at least 2013-02-09 Debian 7 (Wheezy). See this post .
