Manage icons with Azure notification hubs

I study migration from Azure Mobile Services redirection notifications to Azure Notification Hubs for two main advantages: 1) the pub / sub architecture using tags and 2) the abstraction of device registration.

However, I'm struggling to understand the device icon cost management pattern.

Using push notifications of mobile services directly to maintain the current icon value in db for individual device registrations. But with notification nodes in which Azure supports the registration of "signed" devices and controls the fan from device notifications , what is the best approach for client devices to update the current icon value using Azure notification concentrators?

I went through the Azure documentation , watched some great overview videos like Channel 9 Cloud Cover episode 100 , but the documentation and examples seem to be lacking with regard to notification hubs and icon icon management.

Thanks for the help, friends!

Unfortunately, icon management is not easy in pub / sub architecture. If you use tags to indicate individual users, you can save your counter in your backend, and then add it to your notification when sending to the hub.
