What is the use of the new CallLog.Calls.NUMBER_PRESENTATION field for Android?

I noticed that a new field called CallLog.Calls.NUMBER_PRESENTATION has been added to API 19 (Kitkat).

documentation says

A number representing the rules set by the network.

Allowed values: PRESENTATION_ALLOWED PRESENTATION_RESTRICTED PRESENTATION_UNKNOWN PRESENTATION_PAYPHONE

Does anyone know what this is used for / according to what it is?
