Place dynamic marking under the dashed line (move the dynamics horizontally)

I want to create a crescendo that extends to two measures.

Following code

\relative c'
{
    c4\pp\< c4 c4 c4 | c1\ff
}

compiles to

Stupid FF. Position yourself further to the right!

which is almost what I want. However, I would like the ff markings to appear on the right, just below the very next line, to indicate that the last solid tone should also gradually increase the volume.

How can i achieve this?

You can use spacer rest to “move” fortissimo to the end of the second bar:

\relative c'
{
    c4\pp\< c4 c4 c4 |
    << c1 { s2. s4\ff } >>
}

It leads to:

Lilypond output
