Vimperator uses strictly numeric prompts by default. This has several disadvantages:

• Smaller area: only 10 references are needed to get double-digit numbers
• Numeric keys are harder to enter

Is there a way to force Vimperator to use more characters (ideally [a-zA-Z0-9])?

There is a hintchars option that changes the characters used for hints.

You put the following line in your .vimperatorrc, of course, exactly with the letters you want to use:

set hintchars = asdfghklqwertyuiop
