Jenkins several masters

We plan to implement a small Jenkins server farm that will constantly build our binaries when the code is verified.

  • Plan to have about 500-600 odd virtual machines in this farm

A few questions that arise then:

1) Should we go with 1 master - several subordinate configurations OR should we have a multiple configuration of several masters? However, secondly, the obvious choice, however, reading around I learned that the use of resources is much better with the first option.

2) Is there a Jenkins plugin that can facilitate the work of several wizards - basically, so if work is included in it, then load balancing is done through wizards, which then delegate it to any available slave.

3) Can Jenkins scale to 500-600 slaves with one master?

For your proposed configuration, it might be worth going with a commercial product from CloudBees http://www.cloudbees.com/jenkins/enterprise . They will provide you support, and will also load balanced and highly accessible plugins that the open source version lacks.

I found this question by looking at the current state of art for Jenkins multimaster.
