Visual Studio Database Project No longer Deploys During Build Actions

I recently had a PC crash and reinstalled Windows and all my development software. After reinstalling, my Visual Studio 2012 Database Projects projects work differently and I cannot figure it out. My database projects are no longer "automatically deployed" to LocalDB when I press F5 or CTRL + F5. I am using VS2012 Professional with default installation settings.

In my old installation, if I changed the column name in the project and hit F5, the table in LocalDB would be updated immediately without any publishing actions or anything else. The Visual Studio output window also indicates that the changes are applied. This "automatic deployment" does not happen anymore, I have to resort to a right click on the project and click on a publication that works, but is inconvenient.

What can I do to enable this automatic deployment feature again?

So far I have tried:

  • I looked at each setting related to the database in Tools> Options.
  • I have confirmed that Configuration Manager is installed for both Build and Deploy for my database projects.
  • I confirmed that LocalDB is installed and working.
  • Windows VS2012 2012v4.
  • Clean, Build Rebuild .
