How to change the settings theme in Android?

TL DR: How can I change the background of the SettingsActivity parameter to white or off-white to fit Holo.Light? Changing the theme of the application changes the text, but keeps the background as black.

I recently changed the theme of my application from standard (Holo) to Holo.Light. Everything seemed to work fine until I opened my SettingsActivity parameter and was met by this:

As you can see, all tests are black on a black background.

This is the original:

I am trying to make settingsActivity on a white background.

I added the following to my manifest:

    ...
    android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Holo.Light" >
    ...
    <activity
        android:name="edu.purdue.SafeWalk.settings.SettingsActivity"
        ...
        android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Holo" >
    </activity>

However, even over-setting the theme does not help.
