HTML ETags and Github Pages

Question

I take a course in Udacity, and we study the caching system that ETags provide:

I am using GitHub pages and the answer on the forum:

I have a great idea that I cannot use ETags to optimize page loading speed.

It's true? If not, how can I do this? I am completely lost here and would appreciate any help possible!
