Why is volleyball calling https://safebrowsing.google.com?

Question

From time to time, as a rule, when I make a new installation of my application, I will try to authenticate with our HTTPS Auth endpoint, the request takes a very long time (about 20-40 seconds), and then it does not complete with an unknown error. I have enabled Verbose Volley tracing and I see this nonsense about safebrowsing.google.com. What is happening and how can I stop it? I am using Nexus 5 with 4.4 KitKat over Wi-Fi.
