Is there a way to protect my asp.net MVC4 web application from requests from external websites?

I have a scenario where an external website is about to send some data over the network to my web application, then I need to process this information and complete the process in my application. After the process is complete, I need to return to the original external network with some information.

My security questions, how do I know that the external site making the request should actually make the request? If you can point me in the right direction, it would be great!

I am using ASP.NET MVC4.
