Segoe UI Symbol or Vector Graphics for WPF Icons?

We are creating a WPF application and would like dynamic icons (lossless scale and custom colors).

I have come across sites like http://modernuiicons.com/ and http://www.thexamlproject.com/ that provide good vector paths.

The Segoe UI Symbol font, on the other hand, is used by Metro Metro apps. Since it is a font, it is also based on a vector and the size can be set by the size of the font.

Using a font seems to be the cleanest and fastest way. Are there any technical restrictions on using the font for the icons (can I add a new font to the font)?

Thanks for your input!

I did more research on this and decided to go with the Segoe UI Symbol font, as our target audience works exclusively on Windows 8.

Symgo UI Symbol Pros:

  • Installed on Windows 7 and 8
  • +1000 badges
  • Introducing the Windows 8 Underground Internet.
  • Ease of use

Segoe UI Interface Symbols:

  • It’s more difficult to create a new icon (described here )
  • The license is not available for systems other than Windows.
