IE11 Javascript Faster with Profiler Enabled

My website (www.transferxl.com) uses Javascript to compress data. Compressing a large block of 25 MB takes about 1-2 seconds with most browsers (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, ...). IE11 takes more than 40 seconds to complete the same operation.

I thought IE11 was just really slow, so I decided to turn on the profiler and see what happens. To my surprise, the same piece was compressed after 2-4 seconds. Although even slower than Chrome, it used to be faster.

Steps to play:

  • Go to www.transferxl.com.
  • Open the developer console (F12).
  • Add (compressible) file larger than 25 MB.
  • Transfer the file and see the console

You will see a message about how long it takes to compress a piece of data.

  1. Refresh the window (still at www.transferxl.com).
  2. Run the profiler.
  3. Add the same file again.
  4. Transfer the file and see the console

You will see that the same block is now compressed much faster. You can also try it in reverse order. The results are stable. With a profiler on IE, it seems to compress 10-20 times faster than without a profiler.

Does anyone know what the problem is? The profiler output does not show anything alarming. Has anyone else seen this problem?
