How to use emacs prettify-symbols-mode?

I have emacs version 25.0, I turn it on prettify-symbols-modeand type (lambda () t), but it does not downplay. How to use this mode? Also what characters are available and how can I customize it? Any links are welcome.

Edit: Nothing happened in the buffer scratchand Markdown, but when I tried in mode Emacs-lisp, it did prettify, but now I got a question mark and not a lambda character, how can I fix it?
