How does the CUDA nppiMalloc ... function guarantee alignment?

Something that somewhat confused me was the requirement to align the allocated CUDA memory. I know that if they are aligned, accessing the elements of the string will be much more efficient.

First, a little background:

According to the CUDA C Programming Guide (Section 5.3.2):

The global memory is in the device’s memory, and access to the device’s memory is through 32-, 64- or 128-byte memory transactions. This transaction memory must be aligned naturally. Only 32-, 64-, or 128-byte device memory segments that are aligned with their size (that is, the first address is a multiple of their size) can be read or written to memory transactions.

I understand that for a 2D-striped array of type T(for example, pixel values in R, G, B order), if numChannels * sizeof(T)it is 4, 8 or 16, then the array should be allocated using cudaMallocPitchif performance is necessary. So far, this works great for me. I would check numChannels * sizeof(T)before distributing the 2D array, and if it is 4, 16 or 32, I select it with cudaMallocPitch, and everything works.

Now the question is:

I realized that when using the NVIDIA NPP library, there is a family of dispenser functions ( nppiMalloc... like nppiMalloc_32f_C1etc.). NVIDIA recommended using these features to improve performance. My question is, how do these functions guarantee alignment? More specifically, what math do they use to come up with a suitable value for pitch?
