If you publish Python using the wheel format, do you still need to publish them like an egg?

Assuming you support Python 2.6 or later, does it make sense to publish .egg packages or just publish .whl?

In my case, the packages are pure python.

Can you suggest that your potential users will have pip> = 1.4 and / or setuptools> = 0.8? If so, the wheels are fine. If not, the egg will help them, as previous releases pip and setuptools do not support wheels. The fact that their Python 2.6 or better does not guarantee that their installation tools will be fairly recent, I suppose.
