OpenStack has 3 types of core nodes:
- Calculate (Nova)
- Storage (Cinder)
- Network (Neutron)
But for me, all instances of Compute / Nova are virtual machines. VM with file systems. Virtual machines that need to be connected to the network, and ultimately get their network connections from a physical switch in a real data center somewhere.
So, in order to have the Storage and Network nodes that provide file system storage and network connections, blushing first seems unnecessary. Could all nodes be Compute / Nova nodes?
- Why do I need Cinder / Storage nodes for file system space? Each Nova node will have its own file system, right?
- Why do I need Neutron / Network nodes for network connections? Won't my Nova hosts get their network connection from a physical switch in our data center?
Obviously, I missed the main part of the puzzle here, so I ask: what is it that I am missing?
