When someone checks our store (Paypal or credit card options), they receive a receipt from the gateway and a more detailed bill from Magento. We copied both.
About a month ago, in the midst of some other perfectly normal orders, we received a PayPal receipt for an order that did not appear in Magento. We assumed that it was a smart conflict, but after entering Paypal the transaction was there - and the receipt included positions transferred from Magento. It just didn't exist anywhere in the Magento backend.
It seemed strange, but it happened only once, so we continued our life and manually adjusted stock levels.
Today the same thing happened, but this time the client checked the use of CC, and the reseller receipt does not include the order items. We can see the receipt sent to the client from our gateway, we can see the money in our account, but there are no traces in Magento - this means that we do not know what they really bought.
We can just send them an email and ask, but it looks pretty bad. Any guesses on what is going on here? Have you ever seen this behavior, or can I do something for debugging?
This time tomorrow I will be able to check whether it is tracked in Google Analytics, which will tell me if the client made it on the "confirmed order" screen on our website. When it was just Paypal, I thought that maybe they didn’t return to the site (although I think Magento creates an order when you click submit, and not after you return from Paypal). The CC gateway is integrated into the verification flow, so they would never leave the site.
Appreciate any advice!
Sam
