Do i need to clone the repo after using bfg repo-cleaner or use existing ones?

Reading the instructions for bfg repo-cleaner, the workflow is as follows:

  • clone repo with the -mirror option
  • remove repo from unwanted elements using bfg
  • use git gc to physically delete items
  • make a click on a cleared repo

However, then it is not clear to me if you need to delete your own copy of the working directory and make a new clone, or can you just try to get a clean repo / history? At the moment, I am the only one who uses repo.
