Tigrinya language support on iPad / iOS

We have a website that supports the Tigrinya language using Arial for plain text. On iOS mobile devices (iPad / iPhone), Tigrinya characters simply appear as rectangular rectangles.

This issue also appears on Wikipedia and Google .

Kefa, an iOS font designed specifically to support Ethiopian text, didn't work for me when I added the CSS property font-family: kefa, arial;to the website.
