How to view my server logs in IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition

I just got a new computer at work, and I give IntelliJ IDEA Community Edition , because I'm not the biggest fan of Eclipse. I believe that now is the time to try a different IDE.

It seems like I can't figure out how to view the application server logs / exceptions in the IDE. The closest I found is to enable two checkboxes (they were unchecked during the new installation) with:

Run → Change Configurations → Application → Logs (tab)

X Show console with standard changes

X Show console when standard error changes

I just can't find a window / panel / tab with logs that I can enable. I stopped / restarted my server, started / restarted IntelliJ.

Are o server logs displayed in Community Edition ?

Your server most likely writes its log files, not to System.out or System.err. Where they are located will depend on your server. For example, Tomcat logs will be in <tomcatInstallDir>/logs. The Ultimate version, which has server startup configurations, will automatically open these logs (for most server types). In Community Edition, you will need to find where these logs are located, and then configure IDEA to automatically display them when the application starts.
