Is there a git equivalent for clearcase catcr

My only experience in version control systems is a clear image, and although it served its purpose well, I would now like to switch to a free tool. I read and experimented with Git and SVN and, of course, saw the benefits of a commit based approach, as opposed to a file based approach that uses clearcase.

However, there are parts of Clearcase that I would skip if there is no equivalent in other tools. Clearcase can distinguish between files that were written by the user and files created from programs written by the user. The user files will be "File File Versions", and the files generated by the program will be "Derived Object Versions". In addition, dependencies on the "derived version of an object" can be determined using the clearcase command cleartool catcr.

My question is: are there equivalents of these file types in Git and is there an equivalent command cleartool catcr? I agree that this is not strictly part of the version control system, but it is still something that I would like to reproduce if I switched to GIT.
