Could not find axAXVLC plugin in visual studio

I am trying to use the ActiveX plugin for a VLC player in a Windows Forms application using C #. I can use the menu item "Select items ..." to add the VLC plugin to the toolbar, but when I try to add it to the form I get "Failed to import the ActiveX control. Please make sure it is registered correctly." message.

I already registered the dll with regsvr32, and I think the problem is that the visual studio cannot find the link to the AxAXVLC dll (it imports the AXVLC dll correctly).
