I would like to create a webapp where I can display my own geotypes, with NDVI and other data layers, as well as 3D geometry, providing seamless rendering of both 2D tiles and textured three-dimensional shapes, just like maps.google. com is achieved when switching from "map" to "earth".
After much research, the closest I came to a viable solution - to build an infrastructure from scratch based on http://cesiumjs.org/ and while it seems feasible, it is extremely low and will require an exotic cocktail of libraries and a load of man-hours.
Before going down this road, I want to make sure that there is no inexpensive alternative that takes all the heavy lifting out of my shoulders and gives me a friendly set of APIs for my application.
Mapbox is close to excellence in this regard, but unfortunately it only handles 2D.
On the other hand, on the Google side, despite the fatigue of the API API and Maps Engine, itβs hard to say what is currently possible and will remain available for a long time.
In the end, for the future Google-centric solution built today, are there Google APIs that allow you to create a webapp that displays custom 2D and 3D data using seamless rendering?
