Sending data from the server to the Android device

Question

I am using the LAMP stack on my server and I want to send data from the server to the Android device. An Android device should not ask the server to receive data, the server itself sends the data, and the Android device must receive it using the background service. What should I do?

PS → I know that GCM and parse.com do this using push notifications, but is there any other way?

In general, I see only three options,

• From time to time, requests from the device to the server
• Use Google Cloud Messaging
• R- android ( signalR, microsoft asp.net LAMP)
