What is the difference between alignItems and alignSelf in React Native?

I am trying to understand the implementation of FlexBox for React Native and it is unfortunate that the Facebook documentation does not provide any information on everything about what the individual properties mean. They name only those that they implemented without further documentation ...

I like Flexbox in 5 , it does a great job explaining the most important FlexBox features. However, there is no mention of the property alignSelf, and I also did not find the documentation about it elsewhere ...

Can someone explain (maybe even demonstrate visually) what is the difference between the two? I also appreciate links to any resources that explain React Native FlexBox properties in more detail and provide some recommendations on their use.

alignItemsand alignSelfhave the same functionality as such. The only difference: alignItemsapplies children alignment to it , and alignSelfapplies alignment to. This is useful when you want to change the alignment of one child.
