What is a good way to extract dominant colors from an image without shadow?

Question

Is it possible to extract the “true” color of a building’s facade from a photograph / set of similar photographs and remove the shadow distraction? I currently use K-medium clustering to get dominant colors, however it highlights darker colors (if the building is red, then the 1st color will be dark red), since there are a lot of shadow areas in real photos.

Any suggestions are welcome!
