Count the number of people in a video

I am working on a project for image processing and computer vision. The aim of the project is to count the number of people entering the conference. This must be done in OpenCV or Python.

I have already tried the Haar cascade, which is available in OpenCV for the upper body: Detecting the upper body using OpenCV

If you are viewing sample1, at 0:16 a person enters the room, this will always be so. The camera is on the top of the door.
