Wait for the shutdown / swap in Kubernet or Google Container Engine

What is the best way for a script to wait for a job or package to complete in Kubernetes or the Google Container Engine?

In particular, it would be better to get a notification, and not to interrogate the status in kubectl, but I would be pleased with a rather effective cycle without slipping between the cracks. Essentially, I need the equivalent of a simple docker runbecause it blocks until the command completes, but I don't want to use docker directly in this case.

I looked at the Github Issue # 1899 , but haven't resolved it yet.
