Returning results from mutations

My immediate question is: why are the calling function of the request not called?

My suspicion is that there is a problem with the return value from the mutation resolution function (which works). So what should the return values be?

A higher level question: is there a standard way in GraphQL to register a new user and handle the case of an existing user?

The approach below is to have all the user data in the session data and only transfer the data that the front end needs.
