Use the Keep Alive option

What is the use of the keep alive option in Jmeter and its operation?

I did a performance test using Jmeter 3.0. In my registered script option Keep alive, the checkbox is checked. Therefore, I use the keep alive option checked in my real test script. If I use the keep alive option, I received an error in 75 parallel VU Error message: XXX.XXXX.XXXX: server XXX refused to respond if I can not check the save option, I I can switch to 500 VU without errors. In this case, do we need to use the Keep alive option or not?
