How do I get iOS MapKit to use HTTPS for all my communications?

Embedding a map in my application causes a lot of HTTP requests:

http://gspe19.ls.apple.com/tile.vf?flags=1&style=1&size=2&scale=0&v=99999999&z=99&x=9999&y=9999&checksum=1&sid=999999&accessKey=XXXXXX

This is the tile data that appears on the map when scrolling. However, using HTTP is a disclosure issue — anyone who eavesdrops on the network can determine what you are looking at and potentially the “person in the center” is attacking the data to inform you of incorrect information or to try to cause errors.

Is there a way to get MapKit to send these requests via HTTPS? The API documentation is unclear.
