In iOS apps, what's the difference between the main package and the document catalog?

Can someone explain this to me?

I want to know the difference between them regarding things like:

  • The amount of space taken from the device (for example, the application is active or terminated).
  • Memory usage.
  • The ability to read and write data (at the end of the user).
  • What remains and what is deleted (or changed) when the application: Updated from Appstore / Deleted.

And any other details that you may need.
