Strange behavior with coordinator layout and collapsible toolbar with overlapping content

I am trying to get some details from my movie page to overlap the toolbar, but several corner cases continue to cause the content to overlap below the middle of the toolbar. The last case that triggers this shows the diner. Any information would be helpful, since so far the behavior of overlapTop has been very difficult and exacerbated the work.

Edit: I also use appBarLayout.setExpanded to expand it every time I load a new movie. Not sure if this is important.
