VS2008 Error After Installing TFS Powertools

I get a strange error in VS2008. A colleague gets a similar error, we both noticed it after installing TFS PowerToys, so I wonder if this is related.

In any case, the error:

Team Foundation error Fetching the factory COM class for a component with CLSID {GUIID ...} failed because of the following error: 80040154,

Any help would be greatly appreciated

TFS Power tools install something to inform developers using MSN Messenger, and this error is caused by MSN Messenger. Perhaps this should help MSN Messenger Errors 80040111 and 80040154

Fix errors 80040111 and 80040154.

Cause. The MSXML library may be corrupted and may need to be reinstalled.

Troubleshooting steps:

Step 1. Re-register the msxml3.dll file

  • Click "Start", select "Run" and enter the following:
    Regsvr32% windir% \ system32 \ msxml3.dll

I hope you see a popup saying:
Removed DllRegisterServer in C: \ Windows \ System32 \ msxml3.dll.

Step 2. Restart your computer and sign in to Messenger again

Team Explorer has collaboration tools that enable it to interact with Windows Live Messenger or Office Communicator. If you deleted them, you may get the same error from Team Explorer, which is trying to talk to a program that does not exist. In Team Explorer, right-click on the members of the group, select "Personal Settings". In the "Collaboration" section, click "Edit" and select (or place it to another provider if you want).

It worked for me.

We recently changed from SourceSafe to TFS in my workplace, and we really needed to reinstall SP1 in VS2008 in order to get Powertools and TFS to work correctly. This seems to be related to your problem, but I'm not sure ... It seemed to clear some strange errors for me.
