Best Data Access Method in .NET 2.0

When developing with .NET 3.5, I naturally use LINQ to access the data.

But for .NET 2.0 projects, which data access model is best used? I usually use TableAdapters, but sometimes I can also write my own SQL, depending on the situation.

Have you tried NHibernate ? I did not use it myself, but my experience with his Java cousin was very positive.

Other alternatives exist, such as LLBLGen .

It would be very difficult to recommend a general β€œbest” solution without knowing more about the problem.

CodeSmith is another good tool from what I heard.

There is no such thing as the best DAL, only the best for the current solution.

For many years, we used an internal product that was not so bad, but ultimately did not give in to control of commercial products.

For an ASP.Net 2.0 MVC-style application, you can use the Castle project and ActiveRecord to access the data. ActiveRecord can be used separately.
