PHP / FTP ftp_put () causes strange error messages - what to do?

Question

I use ftp_put / ftp_nb_putto upload files from my PHP server to another machine. I often (90% of the time) get absurd error messages like:

Warning: ftp_nb_put(): 2 matches total 
Warning: ftp_nb_put(): Transfer complete
Warning: ftp_nb_continue(): Opening BINARY mode data connection

Now errors like "no such directory" or "wrong password" I could handle, but this "error message" seems completely pointless.

Google suggests that this is a problem with Firewall / PASV. I tried ftp_pasv () but to no avail. I contacted the server administrator, but so far he has not come up with anything.
