32-bit and 64-bit software development machine

I am evaluating a new software development machine and looking at the dell precision series.

When I get to this screen:

http://www.dell.com/content/topics/reftopic.aspx/pub/products/precn_kat?c=us&cs=555&l=en&s=biz&~section=T7400

First Choice: Buy Precision WorkStation T7400 32bit Now!
and second choice: buy the Precision WorkStation T7400 64bit now!

Am I really deciding at this moment which software I want to install? or actually there is a different chipset depending on the choice.

I do not want to limit my possibilities in the future by choosing the wrong option - I can always update the software, but I do not want to replace the equipment.

BTW: This will be for SD from the Microsoft, asp.net, vs 2008, SQL Server, etc. stack, and I would like to start using virtualization (possibly from MS) when purchasing this device.

64-bit, but not XP64 (which Dell offers as a downgrade). The driver situation is pretty terrible, and there are some software incompatibilities . If you need / need to stick with XP, switch to 32-bit, if you want to use Vista or Windows Server 2008, 64-bit is fine.
