I have a good friend (my old college roommate, actually) who criticizes my personal projects every time. He is a usability engineer in a large bank, and I am constantly amazed at what things he catches / offers. When I was in college, I always knew that usability was important at some level, but I still didn't like it. These days, I realized that a good usability expert is worth its weight in gold.
I have two parts of my question:
- Does your organization have a usability team? If so, how do they fit into your development process?
- Can you recommend any convenient βchecklistsβ for software engineers who do not have access to usability specialists who can work when developing user interfaces? I searched the topic and found several guides, but they were very long. I am looking for something small that I can touch the footboard and turn to it without looking at the online book.
