SQL Server 2008 R2 installation will not work

I am trying to install the SQL Server 2008 R2 developer version. I run the setup as an administrator, but after installing the "installation support files" it closes and returns to the installation center screen.

Any ideas?

I had the same problem, and it looks like this was due to previous versions, leaving the items in their install / uninstall. I fixed it by running the Microsoft install / uninstall utility below. During the process, you are asked what program you are trying to install, and MSSQL Server 2008 R2 is specified. After that, the installation continued after the “Installation Support Files” stage. Hope this helps!

So does he even install support files? You can check it by looking at "Programs and Features" (if you are using Windows Vista or 7), and if it is not there, it does not even install support files. In this case, the components necessary for the support files themselves (for example, the old version of the Windows installer) may not be available.

Sometimes the SQL Server installer itself is funny and for no reason it just crashes. Have you tried to start it again? Or try starting the installer after rebooting your system (I know this sounds like too new, but in many cases restarting the OS solves the problem).

The problem started when I change the public folder directory from \ Program Files (86) \ SQL Server to a user folder. If I could rename back to default, it should have been fine, but I stopped the installation and rebooted the installation again, assuming that it will install a new one, but it doesn’t, and it hangs constantly.

I appreciate the comment from Lee, in accordance with his advice, I launched a fix for this tool from Microsoft. The tool finds SQL Server 2008 R2, and I decided to uninstall.

When reinstalling SQL Engine, it passed because this time I did not change the location of the shared folder and did not set it by default. I think this is some kind of error in installing SQL. I wonder why the installation should hang ...!

The problem may be the location of the installation support files.

Delete all installation support files using the control panel / uninstaller. After that, install SQL 2008 from the very beginning.
