Xcode compiles very slowly inside VMWare

OSX 10.6.6 is installed inside VMware on a Windows 7 host. The overall performance is great, but the compilation time has increased dramatically (1 hour versus 2-3 minutes on a pure MacOS). This is a modern machine with a Core i5 and 4 GB of RAM. Here are the results of XBench: http://db.xbench.com/merge.xhtml?doc1=517768&doc2=1&setCookie=true I think the problem may be in an extremely slow 4k value record, but I don’t know how to improve this.

Is there a way to improve performance?

UPD1: swap is not used, for all operations there is enough memory, the disk speed is also not related, since my other Macbook shows the worst results and collects hundreds of times faster.

UPD2: problem resolved, see my answer below

In VMWare, you should have a parameter in which you can fully or partially select one or two cores in a virtual machine. Assuming you have a quad-core processor, are you probably getting MacOSX 2 or 3 cores? If you have a dual-core processor and you have allocated 1 core for the virtual machine (and the problem still persists), I cannot say much!

It's good that your problem is resolved, but I want to share my experience in improving vmware performance. Please install VMware tools for mac os and they are present in the .iso file.

Steps for installing VMware tools for MAC OS:

1) Turn on your virtual machine.
2) In the lower right corner there are some pop-up characters (usually they do not appear in full screen mode). Right-click the CD / DVD icon.
3) Click setting. In this window, make sure darwin.iso is selected.
4) Close this window and right-click the CD / DVD icon again.
5) Click "Connect." An icon will appear with the name darwin (300).
6) There are tools inside this file. Install them!

The problem was: VERY SLOW recursive search for included paths. If they are not recursive, everything works smoothly.

Exchange of experience and decision.

My Xcode worked fine, but when I create a project (even empty), it takes up to 10 minutes.

SOLUTION: Go to Xcode -> Preference -> Source Control: Dissable Source Control

Now projects are built and launched in seconds.

I also had a problem, but I want to share my personal experience here.

  • My processor has 4 GB of memory, so I allocated 3.5 GB for VMWare because of this it was very slow throughout the operating system.
  • So, once I clearly noticed VMWare settings, finally found a solution. If we allocate more RAM memory than recommended, then your operating system also freezes. For my system, the recommended RAM memory is 2048 MB, after setting up this OS quickly.
  • We can configure the RAM in the Devices option, inside Hardware. For an explanation, I am attaching a screenshot here. enter image description here

I had the same problem and fixed it as follows:

  • In most cases, I received with a change in my vmware configuration file to disable the memory stored in the .vmem file. In my .vmx file, I added:
  mainMem.useNamedFile = "FALSE" prefvmx.minVmMemPct = "100"
  1. Setting maximum cells for a guest
  2. When programming with fast and Xcode. Delete all comments / * * / not used.
