Capture real-time video from the screen of iPhone and iPad, including audio and recording on YouTube, Facebook, etc.

Does anyone have pointers to any working code or methods to capture real-time OpenGL full-screen graphics on iPhone and iPad, combine it with audio coming out of the device, and compile it into a video for publishing on the Internet?

For example, applications such as Talking Tomcat do this. I use Cocos2D, but any platform solution that ideally uses modern APIs is welcome. It seems like this should be resolved, given how useful and common such a feature is. However, all the posts I found on this topic are outdated or incomplete.

One of the best sources of information that I have found so far is here: http://www.subfurther.com/blog/2011/04/12/voices-that-matter-iphone-spring-2011/

There is an updated version of the aforementioned ScreenCaptureView class, which has built-in video recording support (see link). It has not been tested with the OpenGL preview, but assuming it works, you can modify it a bit to include sound, and then you should be installed.

I found this simple ScreenCaptureView class that can help. This saves the contents of the UIView in the UIImage. The author suggests that you save the video in your application, transferring frames through AVCaptureSession .

I know this is an old question, but if someone is facing the same problem.

There are ready-made solutions / services for this, so if you are not going to reinvent the wheel, you can try, for example, Everyplay ( https://everyplay.com/about ), which does just that.

Check out Cocos2d integration documentation: https://developers.everyplay.com/doc/Everyplay-integration-to-Cocos2d-game

Disclaimer: I work for a company that makes Everyplay. We are trying to solve the exact problem that the original question poses.

You can try Kamcord, which is an SDK for recording your video application.

It is worth noting that saving the contents of a UIView does not capture any other views or components that are not areas of this component. For example, you will not capture keyboards, popovers or dialogs.
