Unable to start hostnetwork

When I try to start netsh wlan start hostednetwork , I get the following message:

C:\Windows\system32>netsh wlan start hostednetwork The hosted network couldn't be started. The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.

I run it with administrator privileges, so this is not the notorious

C:\Users\Kevin>netsh wlan start hostednetwork You must run this command from a command prompt with administrator privilege.

How to get the hosted network "in the correct state"?

This will happen after disconnecting using the control panel β†’ network adapters β†’ right-click on the virtual connection β†’ disconnect

To fix this, go to Device Manager ( Windows-key + x + m in Windows 8, Windows-key + x , and then m in Windows 10), then open the network adapters tree, on the right, click the button on the Microsoft Hosted virtual virtual network adapter Network and click on enable.

Try the netsh wlan start hostednetwork with administrator privileges. It should work.

Note. If you do not see a network adapter named "Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter", try the menu β†’ View β†’ Show hidden devices in the device manager.

Not to mention the fact that the inclusion of a network adapter in the device manager may not help. The following helped me solve the problem.

I tried to disable and enable the Wi-Fi adapter (i.e. the actual adapter of the Wi-Fi device, not the virtual adapters) in Control Panel β†’ Network and Internet β†’ Network Connections . You can do the same with Device Manager. This, of course, resets the adapter settings, Wi-Fi adapters and Virtual Miniport adapters.

However, please make sure that the mode is set to allow , as in the example below, before running the start command.

 netsh wlan set hostednetwork mode=allow ssid=ssidOfUrChoice key=keyOfUrChoice

and then run the netsh wlan start hostednetwork .

Also, once use is complete with the Miniport adapter plugged in, it is recommended that you stop it by running the following command.

 netsh wlan stop hostednetwork

Hope this helps.

I ran into this problem on my laptop. I found a solution to this problem.

  • Verify this command at the "netsh wlan show driver" command line.
  • See Supported Supported Network.
  • If this is not so,

Then do it

  • Go to the device manager.
  • Click on browse and click on "show hidden devices".
  • Go to the list of devices and expand the node "Network Devices".
  • Locate the adapter named "Microsoft Hosted Network Virtual Adapter," and then right-click it.
  • Select Enable
  • This will allow you to create a connection created by AdHoc, it should appear in network connections in the center of the network and shared if the AdHoc network connection is not displayed, then open an elevated command prompt and use this command β€œnetsh wlan stop hostednetwork” without quotes.
  • After that, a connection should appear. Then try to start the connection. It should work fine.

First check if your network supports LAN support and does not update the map driver. Follow these steps.

1) open cmd with administrator privileges
2) on the black screen: netsh wlan show driver | findstr Hosted netsh wlan show driver | findstr Hosted
3) See Supported Hosted Network; if not, update drivers

Symptoms
You install an application that uses Microsoft Virtual WiFi technology on a computer that is running Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008 R2. However, the application does not work after restarting the computer. In addition, you receive an error message that resembles the following:

The host network cannot be started. The group or resource is not in the correct state to perform the requested operation.

Cause
This issue occurs because the virtual Wi-Fi filter driver does not create the virtual Wi-Fi adapter correctly when PNP resource rebalancing occurs during the boot process.

Notes
1.This problem may occur when Plug and Play Resource Balancing (PNP) occurs during the boot process. PNP resource balancing is usually triggered by a hardware configuration change.
2. If you open the device manager when this problem occurs, you will notice that the virtual WiFi adapter has not been created.

If you cannot restart your host network after rebooting the OS, just try hotfix . Fixed my problem. Or try to figure it out on your own according to the Symptoms and Cause mentioned at the beginning of my answer.

Often I find that a solution to this problem can be fixed by turning the Wifi equipment off and then on. I made a script to do this automatically, and not do it manually by going to the device manager. You can find here

Some fixes that I used for this problem:

  • Check if the connection you want to use is shared .

    but. Press Win-key + r and run ncpa.cpl

    b. Right click on the connection you want to provide and go to properties

from. Go to the sharing tab and check if sharing is enabled.

  • Run devmgmt.msc from the launch console.

but. Expand the list of network adapters

    b. Right-click -> Properties on the adapter of the connection you want to use

from. Go to the power management tab and enable allow this computer to turn off this device to save power . Reboot the laptop if you make changes.

  • Check if airplane mode is off . You can turn on airplane mode and then turn on Wi-Fi, you'll never know. Turn off airplane mode if enabled.

  • Use the admin command line command to run this command .

First, when I entered cmd and typed "netsh wlan show drivers", I also had NO to support the hosted network. No matter you can still do it. Just not in cmd.

I think this problem arises because they changed the way hosted networks work in windows 10 . Do not use the command line.

Just go to your computer to settings> Network> Mobile hotspot , and you will see all the necessary settings there. Turn it on, set up your network.

If it still does not work, go to Control Panel> Network and Internet > Network and Sharing Center> Change adapter settings> , and then click the properties of the network adapter that you want to share. Go to the sharing tab and share this Internet connection by selecting the name of the adapter for which you want to use it.
