How do games create fire and smoke?

I searched the Internet for information on particle systems and fire effects, but I did not find any good answers.

Some games have some kind of movie shown as a fire, which is pretty good, but not for lights that are close to the viewer.

How can I make realistic fire and smoke effects in the game? I am looking for a good example of code or a description of how to do this.

If you really want to start simulating fluid effects (which actually include smoke and fire), then look at Jos Stam's excellent β€œ stable fluid . Maybe it's related to math, if you're not familiar with the landscape. But if you get past the equations ( this may help ), it’s not so difficult, and many implementations are available.

Just Google "Stable Fluids" :) Maybe not a real particle system, but, nevertheless, a lot of fun.

While I do not have the knowledge to provide an answer, I can provide you with a guide: http://sourceforge.net/projects/real-time-fire/

The goal of this project is to create a fast volumetric animation generator. The generator uses a short pre-calculated sequence to produce endless animation. real-time-fire2.0 and higher packages additionally contain thermal smoke.

I would suggest looking for the source code for some games that require a particle system.

If you cannot find them, always Wikipedia for some basic knowledge. However, this may not be enough.
