What is the effect of the Precendence header: bulk email header

Following Google Mail guidelines, bulk mail should contain a header

Precedence: bulk

What is he doing? I could not find an RFC describing the effect on mail delivery.

Some prerequisites: I am working on scripts that will send 500k + mail daily. These are different messages: mail associated with the account (critical delivery), as well as notifications of new content (delivery is not critical).

The exact meaning of Precedence: not standardized, but it does not allow some mail servers to send messages about vacations and scans, and can be used by service providers to disorientize mass mail during busy hours so that "personal" mail will continue Fast delivery.

From RFC2076 :

Non-standard, controversial, discouraged. It is sometimes used as a priority value, which can affect the transmission speed and delivery. Common meanings are “voluminous” and “first-class”. Other uses include controlling automatic responses and managing content return tools, as well as stopping mailing list cycles.

See the answers to this question , as well as RFC 3834 .

In short, the Precedence: header Precedence: non-standard. A Google recommendation is just a way to give a hint to your spam filters, which you really intended to send via 500k + email from your server (unlike the one abused by spammers).
