Enforcing the Use of English in JDK7 Tools

I just installed JDK7 on a German Windows computer, and the first thing I noticed was that unlike JDK6, which is required after the OS and some messages (for example, help messages from tools, but not error messages from the compiler), are in German, How can I get it to use English everywhere? The AFAIK installer is language independent, and all messages during installation were in English.

Do you mean javak? Try setting the argument -J-Duser.language=en . See This post: Passing "-J-Duser.language" to javac via ant to ensure that compilation errors are reported in the correct language

You can set java options by default with JAVA_TOOL_OPTIONS environment variable.

So, to change the language, set it to -Duser.language=en
