Rails 3 - Asset Pipeline - What Does It Mean To Me?

I'm struggling to find real documentation on the new Rails 3 pipeline. I know there is video, but I don’t want to watch hourly video in this format. I watched for about 10 minutes and did not know.

So what do I need to know about Rails 3 pipelines? What does this mean for my previous projects, and what does it mean for my future projects?

This means that now you can write css and javascript in separate files using sass and coffeescript if you want, and they will be compiled into a single file at the end.

If you have 4 css files on your assets/stylesheets , they will be combined and compressed and delivered to production with one application.css file.

The same goes for javascript files.

Here you can find good documentation on guide rails.

This is a great way to service fast assets for your application. Asterisks play an important role in this.
