Combine existing iPhone and iPad applications into a single universal application identifier

I have an existing application for iPhone and an application for iPad, now I have created a universal application, and I want to know if there is a way to "merge" the existing application identifiers, so I can download my new application as an update for the previous ones.

Not. I asked this question during WWDC, several Apple employees in the developer support group, and the answer is "not at this time, please write a bug report if this is a feature that you would like to see."
